YEAR 2

As we come to the end of another term, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and take the opportunity to share some updates with you, as well as details of the good work that continues to take place in Year 2.

This term we had some fun learning opportunities. We had a ZART Art incursion during Book Week. Students read ‘Rainbow Bear’ which is one of the shortlisted books and they did an Art activity based on it. The whole school dressed up as their favorite book character and some Year 2 students enacted a part of a Dr. Seus’ book.

Sirius College celebrated Father’s Day on Friday 30th August. We had fun filled afternoon. Dads had yummy food and enjoyed various games like a M & M’s race, a three-legged competition and musical chairs. There was a photo booth where Dads could get funny photos taken with their kids.

Year 2 students are loving their gymnastic sessions on Thursdays. They are learning various skills like front and backward flips, balancing on the beams and more.

In Literacy, students are learning to write narratives. They are familiar with the structure and language features and have come up with some very interesting stories.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about 3D shapes, measuring area and volume of an object. Students designed their own houses on a grid paper and calculated the area covered by them.

In Art, students loved making art on the plate. They cut out a frog shape from a green apple and used strawberries to make the tongue. They also loved making fake ice-cream cones using cotton and sprinkles.

In Science, we have been learning about the Water Cycle and the importance of conserving water. They also learned about uses of water and how it travels from the dams to our houses.

The students have worked hard throughout the term and need a well deserved break.

The two-week holiday is an ideal opportunity for students to recharge their batteries, reflect on what they have achieved so far and start planning for Term 4.

I hope that learning will continue throughout the holiday and that you will encourage your child to study using our online resources (ReadingEggs and Mathletics). Homework has been set for all students to complete during the holidays. This will help your child to get off to the best possible start in Term 4.

We look forward to seeing everyone’s eager, cheery faces next term. Have a wonderful school holiday and see you next term!
